field sales time tracking
Clock in where they knock.
Knockdesk is field sales software for teams that sell in person. Field sales time tracking here is the GPS clock: Active, with location required, then the shift the rep is in. The rows on this page, 418 Oak Ave and 90 Pine Ct, are a sample, not a customer's shift.

The clock
What the GPS clock writes on a live shift
A gps time clock for sales reps is the Active toggle, not a timesheet typed after Friday. A time tracking app for sales reps in Knockdesk writes Clocked In when location is on, then moves the shift as the rep starts a route or stands at a door. The sample days on this page, with Tuesday at 82 knocks, are a sample, not a customer week.

The sequence
How Active becomes a shift state
A sales rep timesheet app here is the clock plus the shift state. It is Clocked In versus Knocking, not a separate working-time versus knocking-time hours column.
- 1Allow location on the device. Clock-in fails with Location access required to clock in if GPS is off.
- 2Turn the Active toggle on. The label moves from Inactive to Active, and the shift shows Clocked In. The desk stores latitude, longitude, and accuracy from the phone.
- 3Start a route or a knock if Auto-Clock is on. Auto-Clock Settings can clock you in when starting a route or when starting a knock.
- 4Use Take Break when you stop, then End Break when you resume. Those controls show while you are clocked in and not on a route.
- 5Starting a route can move the shift to On Route. At a door the state can be At Door, then Knocking. Idle and On Break are the other live states.
- 6Turn Active off to clock out. Location is read again on clock-out.
The product
Settings in the product
These are the clock rules the product saves. Field sales time tracking is this list. Clocked In and Knocking are shift states, not a second hours column.
| Setting | In the product |
|---|---|
| Active toggle | On clocks you in. Off clocks you out. Location access is required to clock in. |
| Clock-in location | Latitude, longitude, and accuracy from the phone. Without location, clock-in will not start. |
| Clock-out location | Location is read again when Active is turned off. |
| Auto-Clock | When starting a route, and when starting a knock, can turn the shift on without the toggle. Both start on unless you turn them off. |
| Break | Take Break and End Break sit under Active while you are clocked in and not on a route. |
| Shift states | Offline, Clocked In, Selecting Route, On Route, At Door, Knocking, On Break, and Idle. |
| Hours on the shift | Clocked In versus Knocking are shift states. There is no separate working time versus knocking time metric. |
Two desks
What a manager sees and what a rep toggles
The manager sees the shift the clock already wrote. The rep owns Active, Take Break, and End Break. Live crew tracking sits on the sales rep tracking page.
Manager
The crew map and the shift state: Clocked In, On Route, At Door, Knocking, On Break, Idle. Late clock-in and no-show alerts live on sales rep tracking, next to this clock.
Rep
Active, Auto-Clock on a route or a knock, Take Break, End Break, and clock-out. The phone has to allow location or clock-in will not start.
The sheet
Versus a paper timesheet
A paper timesheet can say the rep was out. It does not store the GPS point on clock-in, move the state to Knocking, or read location again on clock-out. The table is the product, not a customer's hours.
| What you watch | On paper | What Knockdesk does |
|---|---|---|
| Clock-in | A written start | Active, with location required |
| A route that starts first | A guess | Auto-Clock can clock in when starting a route |
| A knock that starts first | A guess | Auto-Clock can clock in when starting a knock |
| A break | A note | Take Break, then End Break |
| Clocked In versus Knocking | One hours column | Two shift states, not a third hours column |
