appointment rate formula
Name the sits, then divide
The appointment rate formula is appointments divided by the conversations you name. Knockdesk is field sales software that counts Appointment Set on the pin, then lets you read that sit against conversations or against visits, as long as you name the base.
Book a Walkthrough| Piece | What you count | Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Appointments | Appointment Set outcomes, or sits you already treat as booked | The numerator |
| Conversations | Contacts you already logged | Appointments / conversations |
| Visits | Knocks on the pin, including Not Home | Appointments / visits |
| Example day | 8 sits, 40 contacts, 80 knocks | 8 / 40 = 20%. 8 / 80 = 10%. |
Why it matters
A sit rate without a denominator is a Friday argument
Two reps can both say they book 20 percent. One counted talks. One counted knocks. The loud number wins the meeting, and the field still misses the sit goal. Name the appointment rate formula out loud before anyone reads a percent.
Talks as the base
Use conversations when the job is converting the talk, not the entire walk.
Knocks as the base
Use visits when you want sits against every door, including Not Home.
Close rate is later
Close rate starts after the sit. Do not fold sold into the appointment percent.
Worked example
Eight sits, two bases, two percents you can recompute
A crew logs 8 Appointment Set outcomes, 40 contacts, and 80 knocks. Appointment rate on conversations is 8 / 40 = 20 percent. Appointment rate on visits is 8 / 80 = 10 percent. Same sits. Different formula. Write which one you mean on the board.
| Named base | Numbers | Appointment rate |
|---|---|---|
| Conversations | 8 sits / 40 contacts | 20% |
| Visits | 8 sits / 80 knocks | 10% |
| If someone hides Not Home | 8 sits / 60 knocks | 13.3%. The walk, not the skill. |

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the appointment rate formula?
The appointment rate formula is appointments divided by the conversations you name. Write the denominator. A percent without that name is not an appointment rate.
Should I divide by knocks or by talks?
Use conversations when you are judging the talk. Use visits when you are judging every door. Do not switch mid-week to make the percent look larger.
How does Knockdesk show appointment rate?
Canvass shows appointments over visits. Knock analytics can show appointments over conversations. Name which one you are reading.
Is appointment rate the same as close rate?
No. Appointment rate is the sit. Close rate is the yes after the sit or the talk you named.
Does Not Home belong in the knock base?
Yes, if visits are your denominator. Dropping Not Home shrinks the base and inflates the sit percent.
