Pay the rate that was live
You apply a commission rate on the confirmation moment, not on a number typed after Friday. Knockdesk is field sales software that takes the vendor rate that was live then, then the Default organization rate if that vendor has none. If neither exists, the amount stays empty. The product never invents a rate.
Book a Walkthrough- 1Open Organization Settings, then Vendors. Only an admin can open this page.
- 2Add Vendor if the name is new. Name is required. The default vendor can be renamed but not deleted.
- 3On a vendor row, Set rate. Amount (USD) must be a non-negative number. Effective from defaults to today. Notes are optional. Compensation rate saved writes the row. A newer rate closes the previous open window for that vendor.
- 4Set default rate when a confirmed sale has no vendor attribution. The same amount and Effective from fields apply. History shows earlier windows.
- 5Confirm a won deal with a vendor. Manual confirmation is immediate. The confirmation moment picks the rate whose window contains that time. A later rate does not rewrite it.
- 6If the vendor has no rate at that moment, the default organization rate is used. If that is also missing, no commission row is written.

A sales manager can read the ledger for reps on teams they lead. They cannot set a rate. A field sales rep reads their own lines. An empty rate stays empty on that desk too.

Who can set a commission rate?
An admin, on Organization Settings, then Vendors. A sales manager cannot set a rate or void a sale.
What if the vendor has no rate?
Confirmation uses the Default organization rate. If that is also missing, the amount stays empty.
Does a new rate change old deals?
No. A later rate closes the previous window going forward. Confirmation already written keeps the rate that was live.
What currency does Set rate use?
Amount (USD) on the form. Enter a non-negative number.
Can the default vendor be deleted?
No. The default vendor can be renamed but not deleted.
