KnockDesk

how to create sales territories

Give each door one owner before you cut turf

How to create sales territories is to draw one boundary, put an owner on it, and cut turf inside that cannot overlap turf already cut, so Friday has a door with one name. Knockdesk is field sales software for that boundary, and this how-to sits under the sales territory management pillar on the guides hub.

    Sales territory management

The pillar this how-to sits under: plan, design, and align the area a rep owns.

  2. 2

The index this page opens from.

  1. 1Draw the territory as a polygon, a circle, or a rectangle, or pick a zip, a county, or a state.
  2. 2Assign that territory to a team or to one field rep so turf has a route to land on.
  3. 3Cut turf inside the boundary by lasso, by a CSV of addresses, or from pins on the map. The lasso has to stay inside the territory.
  4. 4Put one vendor on the turf. Set a weekly visit target on the territory or the turf if you want a pace read.
  5. 5Assign the turf to one field rep. They work the pins they were given, not a shared list.

The split

A list of addresses is not a territory

How to divide sales territories is not a highlighter on a printed map. You divide by cutting turf inside a drawn territory, with a lasso that cannot overlap turf you already cut. If two crews can still claim the same household, you did not divide anything. You made a fight.

  • Draw first

Polygon, circle, or rectangle when you trace it. Zip, county, or state when you pick a shape.

  • Cut second

Lasso, a CSV of pins, or pins already on the map. Empty turf you fill later still sits inside the territory.

  • One vendor

One vendor on that turf. A weekly visit target from 1 to 100,000, or blank if you do not want a pace read.

The misses

Mistakes that leave two names on the same doors

The miss that wrecks Monday is cutting work before the boundary exists, then hoping a spreadsheet will refuse a second claim. A sheet will not. A second turf that sits outside the territory, or on turf already cut, is how Friday becomes a recount.

The bar this how-to holds. Sample rows, not a customer audit.

Doing it in Knockdesk

Draw it, then hand a person a pack

On Knockdesk you draw the territory, cut turf inside it, and assign the pack. New turf must sit inside the territory and cannot overlap turf already cut. The cards here are a fixture: North ridge, 186 pins, 42 percent complete, Maya Chen; Harbor loop, 94 pins, 18 percent complete, Jordan Hale. That sample is not a customer map. Full desk is on the pricing page. There is no second Knockdesk tier. A free trial is not open.

What shapes can a territory use?

Polygon, circle with the Radius tool, or rectangle when you trace it. Zip, county, or state when you pick a shape. A zip is a Census ZCTA, not an official USPS route.

No. Assigning the territory to a team or one field rep routes the turf. The pins on a pack move when you assign that turf.

What is a weekly visit target?
