# Pay the rate that was live

You apply a commission rate on the confirmation moment, not on a number typed after Friday. Knockdesk is field sales software that takes the vendor rate that was live then, then the Default organization rate if that vendor has none. If neither exists, the amount stays empty. The product never invents a rate.

## Which rate confirmation reads

A sales manager can read the ledger for reps on teams they lead. They cannot set a rate. A field sales rep reads their own lines. An empty rate stays empty on that desk too.

**Vendor rate.** The vendor on the sale has a window that contains confirmation.

**Default organization rate.** That vendor has no rate at the confirmation moment.

**No rate.** Neither row exists. The amount stays empty.
