# Write the area, the visits, and the owner

What is a territory plan is the written area, the visits, and the owner. Knockdesk is field sales software that turns that writing into a sales territory you draw and turf a person can hold. A highlighted pin list is not a plan.

## A plan nobody wrote still lets three people start the same pack

You feel it when Monday has a map and no sentence that names the area, the visits, or the owner. What is a territory plan is that sentence, written down. Then you draw the boundary and cut turf inside it. The writing does not replace the cut. The cut is how the writing becomes a week.

**Write the area.** Name the sales territory as a shape you can assign, not a pile of pins someone highlighted.

**Write the visits.** Set a weekly visit target the owner can finish. Blank means you have no pace read.

**Write the owner.** One field rep holds that turf. A second name on the same doors is not a plan.

## Ninety visits, one owner, a plan you can recompute

The written plan says Harbor loop, weekly visits 90, owner Jordan. You draw that sales territory, cut turf of 210 pins, set the weekly visit target to 90, and assign Jordan. Jordan logs 90 visits. A sheet with no owner still had Maya, Jordan, and Riley starting the same 40 doors. That sheet was not a territory plan. 90 / 90 is the week the writing named.

| Version | Area / visits / owner | What happened |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Written plan | Harbor loop / 90 / Jordan | Jordan holds 210 pins and logs 90 visits. |
| Highlighted list | Harbor loop / blank / three names | 40 doors start with Maya, Jordan, and Riley. |
| The math | 90 visits on a target of 90 | The week matches the page. |

## The plan is the writing. The territory is the drawing.

A sales territory is the area you draw. Turf is the work you cut. What is a territory plan is the written area, visits, and owner that come before that drawing. How you create the territories is the next step.

- [Sales territory](/glossary/sales-territory): The area the plan said you would draw.

- [How to create sales territories](/guides/how-to-create-sales-territories): Draw the boundary, cut turf, refuse a second claim.

## How Knockdesk tracks it

You draw the sales territory, cut turf inside it, set a weekly visit target from 1 to 100,000, and assign one field rep. One vendor sits on that turf. New turf cannot overlap turf you already cut. Full desk is on the pricing page.

## FAQ

### What is a territory plan?

A territory plan is the written area, the visits, and the owner. Without those three, Friday has a map and no name.

### Is a highlighted pin list a territory plan?

No. A list anyone can edit still lets two people start the same doors. The plan writes one owner.

### What visits belong on the plan?

A weekly visit target on the territory or the turf. In Knockdesk that target can run from 1 to 100,000.

### Does writing the plan cut the turf?

No. The writing names the area, the visits, and the owner. You still draw the sales territory and cut turf inside it.

### What happens in the example with three names?

Maya, Jordan, and Riley start the same 40 doors. The written plan that names Jordan on Harbor loop at 90 visits is the one Friday can run.

### How much does Knockdesk cost?

Full desk is on the pricing page. A free trial is not open.
