# The quarter you can walk

A manager asking what is a field sales plan wants the quarter they can walk: a territory, turf a rep can hold, a visit load, and a quota. Knockdesk is field sales software that cuts that turf inside the area you drew, so Friday is not a cell nobody updated after Tuesday.

## A slide with no owner is not a field sales plan

You feel it when the hire starts Monday and the map is still a zip name in a deck. What is a field sales plan is the cut a person can finish this week, not a hope for 400 visits on 160 pins. 70 visits on Dock loop is a week Maya can hold. 400 on the same pack is five weeks of target stuffed into one row.

**Area.** Draw the territory first. Harbor is 640 pins. A name with no polygon is a shared list.

**Pack.** Cut turf inside that territory. Dock loop is 160 pins with a weekly visit target of 70.

**Quota.** Name confirmed sales on that turf. 8 is a number you can check on Friday, not a speech.

## Four hundred visits on 160 pins is not a week

Harbor is one territory with 640 pins. Maya holds Dock loop: 160 pins, weekly visit target 70, quota 8. The sheet still says weekly visits 400 and hires 1. 400 divided by 70 is about 5.7 weeks of target in one cell. The second hire has no pack. Recompute the week from the turf, not from the hope.

| Plan on the sheet | Numbers | What Friday can hold |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Weekly visit target on the turf | 70 visits on 160 pins | A week Maya can finish |
| Sheet visit load | 400 visits on 160 pins | About 5.7 weeks stuffed into one row |
| Quota | 8 confirmed sales | A number you can count on the pin |
| Second hire | Hires column is 1, no second turf | A name with no pack |

## A field sales plan sits on a sales territory

A sales territory is the area you draw. Turf is the work cut from it. The plan is the quarter that names both, plus the visit load and the quota. Do not call the whole map the plan.

- [Sales territory](/glossary/sales-territory): The area you draw before anyone cuts a pack.

- [Turf](/glossary/turf): Work cut from that territory so one rep can hold it.

## How Knockdesk tracks it

You draw the territory, then cut turf inside it by lasso, by a CSV of addresses, or from pins on the map. Set a weekly visit target from 1 to 100,000. New turf cannot overlap turf you already cut. Full desk is on the pricing page.

## Keep going from the quarter

- [Field sales glossary](/glossary): The hub this term opens from.

- [Field sales plan template](/templates/field-sales-plan-template): A CSV that names territory, visits, and quota before you cut turf.

- [Turf](/glossary/turf): The pack the plan has to become, or the quarter stays a sheet.

## FAQ

### What is a field sales plan?

A field sales plan is the quarter written as a territory, turf a rep can hold, a visit load, and a quota. A slide with no owner is not that plan.

### How is a field sales plan different from a sales territory?

A sales territory is the area you draw and assign. The plan is the quarter on that area: turf, visits, and quota with one owner.

### What numbers belong on the plan?

Households or pins on the territory, a weekly visit target the owner can finish, hires only after you can cut turf, and confirmed sales as quota.

### Why is 400 weekly visits on 160 pins a broken plan?

Dock loop in the example holds 160 pins with a weekly visit target of 70. 400 divided by 70 is about 5.7 weeks of target in one cell.

### Where do I write this before the desk?

Use the field sales plan template, then cut turf in Knockdesk so the visit target lives on the pack, not only on the sheet.

### How much does Knockdesk cost?

Full desk is on the pricing page. A free trial is not open.
