# Pay now, earn it back on confirmed sales

A draw against commission is pay now, earned commission later. Knockdesk is field sales software that holds the confirmed sale and the commission amount you recover that draw against, without inventing a rate.

## A draw against commission turns ugly when Friday invents the rate

Reps spend the draw before the vendor file lands. If the sheet already typed a dollar the vendor never published, the recovery is fiction. Chargebacks then hit a paycheck that already went out. Name the draw, then recover it only against confirmed commission.

**Recoverable.** Commission pays the draw back. Extra commission only shows after the draw is covered.

**The missing rate.** If no vendor rate exists at confirmation, there is no commission row to recover against.

**The void.** A void writes a reversal. The draw you already paid does not disappear. Someone still owes the desk.

## An $800 draw, two weeks, numbers you can recompute

Labeled example, not a customer payout. Week one: recoverable draw $800, confirmed commission $500. Remaining draw $300. No extra commission. Week two: draw $800, confirmed commission $1,100. That $1,100 covers this week's $800 and last week's $300, and leaves $0 extra if you apply it in order, or $300 extra if week one was already closed and only week two is in play. Write the rule. Then do the arithmetic.

| Week | Draw | Confirmed commission | After recovery |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Week one | $800 | $500 | $300 still against the draw. $0 extra. |
| Week two, this week only | $800 | $1,100 | $1,100 - $800 = $300 extra |
| If week one still sits open | $800 this week plus $300 leftover | $1,100 | $1,100 - $1,100 = $0 extra |

## A draw is not OTE, and it is not a SPIFF

OTE is on-target earnings if quota is hit. A SPIFF is a short extra payout on a SKU or a window. A draw against commission is an advance against the commission you still have to confirm. Clawbacks and chargebacks are what happen when that confirmation reverses.

**OTE.** The hiring number if they hit quota. A draw is cash this week, not that annual figure.

**Confirmed sale.** The moment the commission row exists. Recovery starts there, not at the handshake.

**Commission chargeback.** The reversal after a void. A draw already paid is now under water.

## How Knockdesk tracks it

Knockdesk does not name a draw as a pay type. It pays the vendor rate effective at confirmation, or the default organization rate, and it leaves the amount empty when neither exists. Void writes a reversal. You still name the draw outside those rows, then recover it against the confirmed amounts. Full desk is on the pricing page.

## FAQ

### What is a draw against commission?

A draw against commission is pay now, earned commission later. The draw is an advance. Confirmed commission recovers it.

### Is a recoverable draw extra pay?

Not until the draw is covered. In the week-two example, $1,100 commission minus an $800 draw leaves $300 extra if that week stands alone.

### What if commission is lower than the draw?

The leftover sits against the draw. Week one in the example is $800 draw, $500 commission, $300 still open.

### Does Knockdesk calculate the draw?

No. Knockdesk tracks the confirmed commission amount. You name the draw, then recover it against those rows.

### What happens on a chargeback?

A void writes a reversal of the commission. The draw you already paid does not unwind itself. The desk is now short.

### Is a draw the same as OTE?

No. OTE is the on-target year if quota is hit. A draw against commission is cash this week against sales you still have to confirm.
