# The tape after the door, not a whisper

Conversation intelligence is the recap and score from a recorded talk. Knockdesk is field sales software, and what is conversation intelligence here is the tape after consent, not a live prompt in the ear.

## A score that replaces the outcome is not intelligence

You feel it when the card says Interested and the pin still says Not Home. What is conversation intelligence is coaching from the tape. The outcome the rep logged stays. The six script steps are opening, rapport, discovery, presentation, objections, and close.

**Consent first.** Verbal, written, or consent captured on the recording. Then Start Recording. The file does not start itself.

**Skip the tape.** The rep can skip recording and still log the outcome. Friday still has that door.

**Six steps.** Opening, rapport, discovery, presentation, objections, close. The score sits beside the outcome. It does not replace it.

## Twenty talks, fourteen tapes, a week you can recompute

Jordan logs 20 talks on North ridge. 14 start a file after consent. 6 skip the tape. All 20 still have an outcome on the pin. On the 14 tapes, objections show used on 8 and missed on 6. The suggested card never overwrote those 20 outcomes. There was no live whisper on any door.

| Beat | Count | What stays true |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Talks logged | 20 | Every outcome is on a pin |
| Recorded after consent | 14 | The file exists because someone agreed |
| Skipped the tape | 6 | Still an outcome. Still no file. |
| Objections used | 8 of 14 | A score. Not a new disposition. |
| Outcomes overwritten | 0 | The score does not replace the log |

## The tape is not the passenger seat

A virtual ride-along is coaching from that recording. A ride-along puts the manager on the turf. Conversation intelligence is the recap and the six scores after the door. Do not mix the three when you plan the week.

- [Virtual ride-along](/glossary/virtual-ride-along): Coaching from the tape instead of the car.

- [Ride-along](/glossary/ride-along): The manager walks the turf with the rep.

- [Field sales automation](/glossary/field-sales-automation): The recap, the outcome, and contests on logged work.

## How Knockdesk tracks it

Recording is opt-in. Consent is a step before Start Recording. Skip Recording logs the visit with no file. After the door, Coach writes a recap and scores opening, rapport, discovery, presentation, objections, and close. The score does not replace the outcome the rep logged. There is no live whisper. Full desk is on the pricing page.

## Keep going from the tape

- [Conversation recording](/features/conversation-recording): Consent, the file, and the outcome that stays.

## FAQ

### What is conversation intelligence?

Conversation intelligence is the recap and score from a recorded talk. In Knockdesk that is the tape after consent, plus six script steps, with the logged outcome left alone.

### Is recording required on every door?

No. Recording is opt-in. The rep can skip the tape and still log the outcome.

### What consent does Knockdesk ask for?

Consent is a step before the file starts. The rep picks verbal, written, or consent they will capture on the recording. Knockdesk does not ask the other party.

### What are the six script steps?

Opening, rapport, discovery, presentation, objections, and close. The score sits beside the outcome. It does not replace it.

### Does the score change what the rep logged?

No. A suggested outcome stays on its own. Reviewing the recap does not rewrite Sold, Not Home, or any other disposition.

### Does Knockdesk whisper during the talk?

No. There is no live whisper. Coaching starts after the door.

### Is this the same as a ride-along?

No. A ride-along puts the manager on the turf. Conversation intelligence uses the recording after the visit.
