# Keep the hire in the sidebar.

Knockdesk is field sales software for teams that sell in person. Sales onboarding software here is the template from People, then Tools, then Onboarding, and My Onboarding in the sidebar until the hire is done. The sample steps on this page, opener at 7 of 9 talks, are a sample, not a customer's hire list.

## What the hire still has to finish

Sales rep onboarding software is thin if the packet lives in email. Field sales onboarding in Knockdesk is the assigned template, sequential locks, approval holds, and a contest that can Require finished onboarding. The product does not block a knock or a route from this page.

**The sidebar.** My Onboarding stays until status is Completed or Manually Completed. Then it hides.

**The lock.** Sequential Completion keeps later required tasks locked until earlier required work is done or submitted.

**The contest.** A game can Require finished onboarding before a rep can join. That is eligibility, not a knock block.

## How a template becomes My Onboarding

A new hire onboarding app for sales reps has to live on the phone they already carry. Knockdesk keeps the same template the admin built, including a fillable document the rep can sign on the phone.

1. Open People, then Tools, then Onboarding. An admin sees Setup. New Template opens the builder. Target role is Field Sales Rep or Sales Manager.
2. On Template Policies you can turn on Sequential Completion, Allow Skipping Optional Tasks, Auto-assign to New Users, and Require Admin Approval.
3. Assign the template from User Onboarding, or from a person on People. Auto-assign to New Users gives that template to new users of the target role.
4. The hire opens My Onboarding. Tasks can be a short answer, long answer, checklist, true or false, link, file upload, form, or fillable document. A fillable document can be a phone-signed PDF.
5. If Require Admin Approval is on, a submitted task sits as Pending approval and cannot be edited until it is approved or rejected. Rejected work can be edited again.
6. When every required task is Completed, or an admin marks Manually Completed, My Onboarding hides. A contest can still Require finished onboarding. The desk does not block a knock from this page.

## Settings in the product

These are the policies and statuses the product saves. Field sales onboarding is this list. It is not a gate on the route.

| Setting | In the product |
| --- | --- |
| Where you build it | People, then Tools, then Onboarding. Target role is Field Sales Rep or Sales Manager. |
| Task types | Short answer, long answer, checklist, true or false, link, file upload, form, and fillable document. Fillable documents can be signed on the phone. |
| Sequential Completion | Later required tasks stay locked until earlier required work is completed or submitted. |
| Allow Skipping Optional Tasks | Optional work can be skipped. Required work still has to be done. |
| Auto-assign to New Users | New users of the target role receive that template when they join. |
| Require Admin Approval | A submitted task sits as Pending approval. It cannot be edited until it is approved or rejected. |
| Status | Not started, In progress, Completed, or Manually Completed. Finished is Completed or Manually Completed. |
| What it does not do | It does not block a knock or a route from the onboarding page. The sidebar, sequential locks, approval holds, and contest eligibility are what it does. |

## What an admin assigns and what a hire finishes

An admin owns the template. The hire owns My Onboarding until it hides. The sample card, Price objection on North team, is a sample, not a customer template.

**Admin.** Builds the template, sets policies, assigns it from User Onboarding or from a person, and can mark Manually Completed. They can reset or replace an assignment. Prior data is kept as history.

**Hire.** Opens My Onboarding on the desk they already use. A locked task waits on the required work before it. A pending approval cannot be edited until it is approved or rejected.

## Versus a paper packet

A paper packet does not stay in the sidebar, lock later required work, or hold a contest until onboarding is finished. The table is the product rule, not a customer's first week.

| What you watch | On paper | What Knockdesk does |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The hire's list | A packet in email | My Onboarding stays until Completed or Manually Completed |
| Later tasks | All open at once | Sequential Completion locks later required work |
| A signed PDF | A scan after the fact | A fillable document can be signed on the phone |
| A contest | Anyone can join | Require finished onboarding is an eligibility switch |
| A knock | Sometimes withheld | This page does not block a knock or a route |
